Running a business can be stressful, most especially getting clients to keep your business afloat. This is because clients are the lifeblood of every business. Any profit aimed at business without a constant flow of clients is on the verge of coming down. As a business, you must constantly work on how to get more clients and constantly grow.
It’s one thing to successfully launch a business, even if you have the required capital or you don’t, it’s another thing to build up a solid customer base. There are no “juju” or silver bullet that troop in customers immediately you start a business. This is because building your customer base requires you have to invest time in building relationships, networking, and marketing your hustle, etc.
In this post, I’ve covered 5 effective ways and strategies I always use for my business to get new or more clients and constantly grow.
1. Leverage your existing network to receive more referrals
“I’d recommend that the business develop a core group of customers that can make referrals; referrals are strong leads,”
Tim Shoemaker
Your existing network or customers are the number one place to reach out to more clients. There is nothing as good as word of mouth in growing your customer base for your business.
Whenever I complete a project, I always send a thank you message and mention that I would appreciate a referral from them to enjoy the same services they enjoyed. With this, I build a stronger relationship with my existing network and create a stream for more clients.
You have already established trust with your existing network, so leverage that to get more.
2. Utilize your Website & Social Media
An active social proof is a good way people can know the problem you solve and always reach out to you. In fact, digital marketing strategies help to promote your business & bring you more customers. Your website content brings your ideal customers, and give them a reason to contact you or signup for a newsletter or download your free guides.
Also, an active social media presence is another way to build trust and expands your reach. For example, I’ve received many clients from LinkedIn and Facebook by sharing my design work and blog articles.
Answering questions on Quora, Facebook groups (geared at small business owners, B2B/B2C, and freelancers) and Twitter have also helped me build influence and grow my client base. It’s an effective way to find people who need your service or buy your products. For example, I search for keywords around my niche on Twitter, to see people who are asking for help, recommendations or who to hire:
- I need help with (keyword)
- Hiring a (keyword)
- (keyword) recommendations
3. Build an active email list and stay in touch with your subscribers.
Email has one of the highest returns on interest (ROI) compare to other channels of reaching out to a more client base. This is because not everyone will always check their social media account every day or not miss out on some necessary content online, but they are very likely to check their emails. Building an email list is one of the best things I have done to my business. Basically, because it allows me to stay in touch with my subscribers, offer them value, share resources, and promote my product or services.
I’ve heard many say “people don’t read emails anymore” or “emails get pilled up and deleted”; this can be true. Your customers and leads are truly being bombarded by many other marketing emails. But if you don’t want your emails to end up in the trash folder, you have to make them stand out. Use a good email marketing services to design your emails and not just the normal black text on white background.
I always recommend GetResponse. It’s one of the best automated marketing tools I use for my emails, and I find it easy and quick to use the various drag-and-drop templates.
Use a branded email signature. Place all necessary links including your social media handles and website. This helps to passively promote your business to your subscriber and remind them about your product or service.
The point is that you should focus on sending emails to people with an interest in your content.
4. Create High-Quality Targeted Blog Content
You should consider creating a blog for your business, and post high-quality content targeted towards your ideal clients. This is not just another way to promote your content, but also to call the attention of the potential client. Although, this won’t pay off overnight, it is a very long-term strategy, but every business needs to understand the importance of this online marketing method as a tool to getting more customers.
Initially, I used my blog as a place to share my ideas and store previous content that I wrote, for easy access. Then over time, I realized it was getting views from people around the world. It has also been a great way to provide solutions to certain issues around my niche.
However, for your blog to draw much attention and bring in your ideal client, you must make it credible. A credible blog is that which has valuable content and good designs; it’s a blog that is consistently updated with the right-high quality content targeted towards your ideal clients.
Not only does having a blog bring visibility and sales, but it also places you as an authority in your niche. But make sure it is contents that your ideal clients would want to read.
5. Use Online Advertising
If you have a budget (daily or monthly budgets) and can fine-tune your targeting to the right audience for your product or services, experimenting with Google Ads or Pay-Per-Click is another good way to get customers faster. It’s one of the most basic forms of driving people to a product or service. You can target your ads to specific prospects, people who are in the same geographic region you service.
Instagram or Facebook Ads are other effective ways to reach out to the target audience or the right demographics for your business. You can use metrics like relationship status, interests, geographic location, and many other demographics. I use Facebook Ads most times in getting more clients to buy my products or services. This is because I find it cheaper compared to other forms of advertising. And it has been an absolute gamechanger for selling my courses and offering my design services.
Do A/B testing to experiment with your Ad to see which ad copy, exact budget limit, or sales page, that receives the best responses or has the highest conversation rate. My best advice is to take your time in testing what brings in the highest ROI considering the cost of your ads. Once you have a profitable campaign, then you can continue to scale up.
Conclusion
When you are just starting, getting client may seem impossible and intimidating at first, but it comes down to naturally communicating about your brand and building your networking with others. Always maximize platforms and opportunities to share your business with potential customers while building relationships with influencers and experts in your industry.
There are still more ways to get more customers, but these are five effective ways I have used to get more clients and constantly promote my business.
You need to understand that there is no one path to being successful in business. But I am so confident that if you implement these strategies, you will get more clients in a matter of weeks or months. I hope this helped!
